Hirosaki Castle tower raised to reconstruct stone walls

The three-story tower of Hirosaki Castle in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, is raised 10 centimeters off its foundation by 27 hydraulic jacks on Aug. 16, 2015, during the first "Hikiya" operation at the castle in 100 years. The 14.4-meter high, 400-ton castle tower will now be moved on carriages 70 meters by rail to allow its stone wall foundation to be reconstructed. (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
