Japan, U.S. run undersea detection system for Chinese submarines
Arrows on the photo, taken Sept. 8, 2015, mark two traces of buried cables which extend undersea from Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force Oceanographic Observation in Uruma in the southernmost island prefecture of Okinawa. They are believed to be an undersea submarine detection system that the MSDF and the U.S. Navy are jointly operating to counter China's rising maritime activities. (Kyodo)
