Late Umesao's house in Kyoto opens as gallery
Photos taken by the late ethnologist Tadao Umesao are displayed at his house, once called "Umesao Salon," in Kyoto on Aug. 29, 2015. His son turned the two-story wooden house into a gallery. Umesao, who died in 2010 at age 90, purchased the house in 1949 and lived there until he became the first director general of the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka Prefecture in 1974. (Kyodo)
