Japan proposes building lithium ion battery-powered subs in Australia
The Japanese government and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., seeking to win a bid to build Australia's submarine fleet, hold a briefing session for the local defense industry in Sydney on Oct. 6, 2015, during a three-day international maritime exposition that got under way the same day. The Japanese team said it plans to construct the vessels in Australia and proposed jointly developing the world's first lithium ion battery-powered sub. (Kyodo)
