Japan begins sending "My Number" ID numbers to residents
A resident in the western Japan city of Kaiyo, Tokushima Prefecture, receives a card bearing a 12-digit identification number from a postal worker on Oct. 23, 2015. About a dozen of Japan's 47 prefectures began mailing the numbers the same day under a new social security and tax number system known as the "My Number" system, to be put into use in January.
