Battery train makes 22-kilometer round trip
A train carriage powered by 600 size D batteries arrives at a station in the city of Yurihonjo, Akita Prefecture in northeaster Japan, on Nov. 3, 2015 after completing a 22.615-kilometer round-trip in two hours and 47 minutes. The train produced by students at Kawagoe Technical High School in Saitama Prefecture carried nine people and ran at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. Guinness World Records recognized the distance as the first one traveled by a train on batteries. (Kyodo)
