Japan-led nuke abolition motion fails to attain backing of key powers
The United Nations General Assembly First Committee, which deals with disarmament issues, meets at U.N. headquarters in New York on Nov. 2, 2015. The committee overwhelmingly approved a Japanese-sponsored draft resolution calling for abolition of nuclear weapons that for the first time referred to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings, but none of the five nuclear powers that sit on the U.N.
