Beijing issues first-ever highest smog warning
Photo taken on Dec. 8, 2015 in Beijing shows the Japanese School of Beijing, which was closed on this day after city authorities for the first time issued the highest level red alert for air pollution, when severe smog is expected to last more than 72 hours. The red alert required most schools in the capital to close and restricted traffic, banning cars with odd and even number plates, respectively, from driving on alternate days. (Kyodo)
