China stock trading halted after shares plunge
An individual investor leaves a securities firm in Beijing after Chinese stock trading was halted on Jan. 4, 2016, the first trading day of the year. A "circuit breaker" mechanism designed to prevent volatility was triggered in the afternoon after a drop of 7 percent in the CSI 300 index comprising stocks listed in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges.
