"Pear fairy" meets Eagles manager on southern island
Rakuten Eagles manager Masataka Nashida (L), nicknamed "Nassyi" (pear), scatters beans with Japan's favorite "pear fairy" mascot, Funassyi, in Okinawa Prefecture's Kumejima Island on Feb. 3, 2016. The mascot of Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo traveled to the southern subtropical island to meet Nashida, who was there for the Pacific League club's spring training. The mascot took part in a "dreamlike" event for the team's fans in which the pair of "pears" scattered beans together to celebrate the traditional Japanese festival that marks the beginning of spring.
