Traditional pre-spring festival in northern Japan
People wearing elaborate "eboshi" hats in the shape of horses' heads perform a traditional dance in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, northern Japan, on Feb. 17, 2016, the first day of a four-day festival to pray for the early advent of spring and a rich harvest. The festival is believed to have an 800-year history and is designated as one of Japan's Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties. (Kyodo)
