Tokyo police hold biannual memorial service for police dogs

Tomoaki Uehara, chief of the identification section of the Metropolitan Police Department, offers prayers before the cenotaph dedicated to 236 police dogs that have died. The dogs contributed to crime investigations and to rescuing people hit by natural disasters and were commemorated during biannual memorial services in Tokyo on March 20, 2016. "These dogs worked as members of the MPD. I said 'thank you' in my heart and prayed for their souls to rest," Uehara said. (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
