Japanese NGO donates school building in Afghanistan
Students of a school in a suburb of Kabul water a cherry tree seedling on April 3, 2016, with a newly built school building seen in the background. The Japanese nongovernmental organization Shanti Volunteer Association donated the building for the school that lacked classrooms, forcing many students to study in tents. Representatives of the group were unable to attend a ceremony marking the completion of the building in December, as the Japanese government advises its citizens not to travel to Afghanistan, so they sent the seedling instead.
