3rd municipality in Japan starts issuing same-sex partnership papers
Sakae Okamoto (L), mayor of Iga in the central Japan prefecture of Mie, hands a certificate to two women in their early 20s that recognizes their partnership as being equivalent to marriage, at the municipal government offices on April 15, 2016. Iga became the country's third local government to issue such certificates following Tokyo's Shibuya and Setagaya wards that launched similar systems the previous year. (Kyodo)
