Okinawa governor criticizes Abe for neglecting Okinawa
Okinawa Gov. Takeshi Onaga speaks to reporters in Naha on May 26, 2016, following a meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe the previous night. The governor criticized Abe for telling Obama that moving the U.S. Marine Corps' Air Station Futenma from a crowded residential area to a less populated coastal area within Okinawa is the only solution to remove the dangers posed by the air base. Onaga has called for relocating the base outside Okinawa.
