Abe considering postponement of scheduled tax hike
Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso speaks at a Liberal Democratic Party meeting in Toyama, central Japan, on May 29, 2016. Aso said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe would need to dissolve the House of Representatives for a general election if he pushes back a 2-percentage-point consumption tax hike scheduled for April 2017, a day after meeting with Abe and other top party officials on the possibility of postponing the tax hike until October 2019.
