Sharp to lay off 7,000 people globally
Tai Jeng-wu, the new head of Sharp Corp., tells reporters in New Taipei on June 22, 2016, that the Japanese electronics maker is planning to lay off 7,000 employees worldwide following a takeover deal signed in April between Sharp and Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known by the trade name Foxconn.
