"Uchimizu" event in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district
People in yukata, a casual summer version of kimono, splash water on a street in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district during an "uchimizu" event on July 31, 2016, as scorching heat hit much of the Japanese archipelago. Uchimizu is an old Japanese custom of using a bucket and ladle to splash streets and gardens with water to bring down the summer heat and dust in the air. (Kyodo)
