Fire festival marks end of Mt. Fuji's summer climbing season
A total of 90 3-meter-tall torches are kindled along a national highway leading to a shrine in the city of Fujiyoshida at the foot of Mt. Fuji, Yamanashi Prefecture, on Aug. 26, 2016, during the "Yoshida Fire Festival." The festival, known as one of Japan's three most peculiar festivals, has been performed annually for more than 400 years in the hope of keeping Mt. Fuji from erupting. (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
