"Flying pumpkins" ripe enough for harvest in Hokkaido
"Flying pumpkins" are hung from the frame of a greenhouse in Naganuma, Hokkaido, on Aug. 29, 2016. About 3,000 pumpkins in four varieties are being grown through suspension above ground. The method ensures that the lower half of the pumpkin, normally submerged in soil, receives sunlight as it grows. The pumpkins will be harvested in early September and put on the market for about 1,200 yen each. (Kyodo)
