Toshio Tominaga speaks to reporters in the northeastern Japan town of Sotogahama on the morning of Sept. 7, 2016, before starting a 30-kilometer swim between Japan's main island of Honshu and its northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido. If he succeeds, the 73-year-old will become the oldest swimmer to achieve the feat of crossing the Tsugaru Strait between Aomori and Hokkaido prefectures. (Kyodo)
