Kumamoto marks 6 months after quakes, rebuilding homes remains issue

A worker uses a kitchen knife to scrape a waterproof sheet off a piece of concrete -- a requirement under the recycling law -- during the demolition of a house destroyed by a series of powerful earthquakes in the town of Mashiki in Kumamoto Prefecture on Oct. 13, 2016, about six months after the area was devastated by the disaster. "I don't suppose anyone knows we are doing such detailed work, do they?" the worker said, pointing to the fact that the garbage won't be collected unless it is correctly segregated. "This is why reconstruction is being delayed." (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
