Festival at Nikko shrine recreates 1617 procession

People carry a portable shrine during a biannual procession at Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Tochigi Prefecture on Oct. 17, 2016. The procession is a revival of the ceremony held in 1617 when the spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, was moved from Mt. Kuno in Shizuoka Prefecture to Nikko. Ieyasu died in 1616. (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
