Japanese troops given new security role for U.N. mission in S. Sudan
Defense Minister Tomomi Inada arrives at the prime minister's office in Tokyo on Nov. 15, 2016. The government decided at a Cabinet meeting to assign to Self-Defense Forces personnel a controversial new security duty to be carried out during U.N. peacekeeping operations in conflict-mired South Sudan so they can rescue U.N. staff and others under attack in line with relaxed criteria on their use of weapons.
