"Sleeping cat" carving unveiled after restoration work
The "nemuri-neko" (sleeping cat), a wooden sculpture designated as a national treasure, is unveiled at the Nikko Toshogu shrine in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture on Nov. 28, 2016, after restoration work. The work made the cat's eyes, which used to be closed, to open slightly to match the description in historical documents. (Kyodo)
