Casino bill clears lower house
Some opposition lawmakers, including members of the Democratic Party, walk out of a plenary session of the lower house on Dec. 6, 2016 before it voted on a bill to legalize casino gambling. While the bill passed the lower house, with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party aiming to enact it by the end of the current Diet session on Dec. 14, concern remains that the bill, if enacted, could worsen the problem of gambling addiction and other social ills.
