Japan GSDF in S. Sudan takes up controversial new roles
Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force personnel are deployed in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, for the U.N. peacekeeping operations on Dec. 12, 2016, when they took on new roles of rescuing U.N. staff and other personnel under attack and playing a bigger part in protecting U.N. peacekeepers' camps.
