Japan decides to scrap trouble-plagued Monju prototype reactor
The Japanese government announces in a ministerial meeting in Tokyo on Dec. 21, 2016, it will decommission the Monju prototype fast-breeder nuclear reactor in Fukui Prefecture. The reactor has barely operated over the past two decades despite the key role it was envisioned to play in the country's nuclear fuel recycling policy. (Kyodo)
