Soccer: Halilhodzic open to 48-team World Cup
Japan coach Vahid Halilhodzic, shown in this file photo taken in November 2016 at Saitama Stadium, backed the expansion of the World Cup from the current 32-team format to 40 or 48 teams. "Soccer is steadily being played at a higher level across the world. The idea to expand the World Cup makes sense," the Franco-Bosnian who led Algeria to the knockout stage at the 2014 World Cup told Kyodo News. (Kyodo)
