6th anniversary of 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami
A classroom of an elementary school in the northeastern Japan town of Futaba, Fukushima Prefecture, remains unchanged on March 9, 2017, since the time a magnitude 9.0-earthquake struck the region almost six years ago on March 11, 2011, prompting pupils to evacuate without their belongings. Kyodo News obtained permission from the town authorities to enter the school as the area remains a no-go zone due to radiation leaks from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant triggered by a massive tsunami that followed the quake.
