Abe sends offering to war-linked Yasukuni Shrine, visit unlikely
A "masakaki" tree ritual offering (top L) sent by and bearing the title and name of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, is displayed at Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine on April 21, 2017, at the start of its annual spring festival. The shrine is a symbol of Japan's 20th century militarism in neighboring countries such as China and South Korea, which suffered from Japanese wartime brutality. (Kyodo)
