"Conspiracy bill" passes lower house with ruling bloc support
Japan's House of Representatives passes the government-sponsored "conspiracy bill" during a plenary session at the Diet in Tokyo on May 23, 2017. The controversial bill to penalize the planning of serious crimes is expected to be sent to the House of Councillors, or upper house, the following day, with the ruling bloc seeking its passage during the ongoing Diet session through June 18.
