Bid to add "Waso" kimono-wearing art to UNESCO heritage listing
Ryohei Miyata (R), head of the Cultural Affairs Agency, receives a written request at his agency in Tokyo on May 29, 2017, from Yoshitaka Ikeda, executive board chairperson of the Kyoto Foundation for Japanese Dress (Kimono) Industry Promotion, asking the government to apply for registration of "Waso," the art of wearing the traditional Japanese attire, on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
