Sacred Japanese island added to UNESCO heritage list
The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization holds a meeting in Krakow, Poland, on July 9, 2017, to discuss new additions to UNESCO's World Heritage list. The panel decided to add the island of Okinoshima and three reefs as well as four other related sites in Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, to the list. (Kyodo)
