UNESCO survey finds deterioration of Bamiyan caves
Photo taken July 17, 2017, inside a cave near West Buddha in the Bamiyan Valley of central Afghanistan, shows its ceiling, with whitish parts having being created after falling off due to deterioration, found during a survey by a team of restoration experts. In mid-July, UNESCO surveyed caves at the World Heritage Site believed to have been built between the fifth and eighth centuries, and confirmed some deterioration such as exfoliations on the ceilings and murals.
