Opposition party chief criticizes Abe's decision to call snap election
Seiji Maehara, head of Japan's main opposition Democratic Party, speaks to reporters in Tokyo on Sept. 25, 2017. Maehara said Abe decided to dissolve the House of Representatives on Sept. 28 and hold a snap election to avoid facing a grilling from opposition parties over favoritism allegations involving private school operator Moritomo Gakuen and university operator Kake Educational Institution, both run by Abe associates.
