"Victory" doll making in full swing ahead of election

A craftsman paints a Japanese traditional "daruma" doll featuring the word "hissho" (victory) on its body in Takasaki, Japan, on Sept. 27, 2017, as making of the doll, a fixture in Japanese election campaigns, is in full swing ahead of a lower house election in October. The daruma doll is usually on sale with both eyes left blank, as the pupil of one eye is painted when making a wish, and the other when the wish comes true -- a scene often seen after a candidate wins an election.
