Democratic Party to effectively disband, members to join Koike party
Seiji Maehara, leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, addresses a meeting of lawmakers at the party's headquarters in Tokyo on Sept. 28, 2017, after the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The party decided the same day to join forces with the newly established "Kibo no To" (party of hope) led by Tokyo Gov.
