A North Korean man who had been hospitalized in Hakodate, Hokkaido, for a stomach ulcer is carried on a stretcher aboard a plane at Hakodate airport on Dec. 8, 2017, before being transported to a hospital in Sapporo. The man and nine other North Koreans aboard a recently impounded fishing vessel caused damage and stole property amounting to several million yen when they took refuge on an uninhabited island off northern Japan, sources familiar with the matter said the same day.
