Farewell to pine in Fukushima, symbol of reconstruction
People hold hands around a pine in Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture on Dec. 27, 2017, which survived the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The pine, a symbol of the city's reconstruction from the March 11, 2011 disaster in northeastern Japan, was felled later in the day as it had suffered decay. (Kyodo)
