Comfort women statue in Taiwan
People hold a sit-in on Aug. 14, 2018 in front of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association office in Taipei seeking a Japanese government apology and compensation over so-called comfort women, who were forced to work in Japanese wartime military brothels. The same day a bronze statue symbolizing comfort women was unveiled at a ceremony in the southern Taiwan city of Tainan, marking the first erection of such a memorial in Taiwan.
