One of Japan's first Olympians
Photo taken in Nagomi, Kumamoto Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on Jan. 8, 2019, shows a museum commemorating Shiso Kanakuri, a Japanese marathon runner who was reported to have set a world record in the 1910s. Kanakuri took part in the marathon race for the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, making him one of the first two Japanese Olympians. (Kyodo)
