One of Japan's first Olympians
Photo taken in Nagomi, Kumamoto Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on Jan. 8, 2019, shows a house where Shiso Kanakuri, a Japanese marathon runner who was reported to have set a world record in the 1910s, was born in 1891. Kanakuri took part in the marathon race for the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, making him one of the first two Japanese Olympians. (Kyodo)
