One of Japan's first Olympians
Photo taken in Nagomi, Kumamoto Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on Jan. 8, 2019, shows a pair of tabi shoes worn by Japanese marathon runner Shiso Kanakuri when he ran in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, displayed at a museum commemorating him. A native of Nagomi, Kanakuri was reported to have set a world marathon record in the 1910s and became one of the first two Japanese Olympians. (Kyodo)
