24th anniversary of Great Hanshin Earthquake
Silhouettes of people standing in front of the Wall of Kobe, which had survived the Great Hanshin Earthquake, in memory of those killed in the disaster, are seen on Jan. 12, 2019 -- five days ahead of its 24th anniversary -- in Awaji, western Japan. The wall, which was originally built in Kobe and survived World War II as well, was moved to Awaji in 2009. (Kyodo)
