"Kokeshi" wooden dolls in northeastern Japan
Photo taken in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, on Feb. 18, 2019, shows a Japanese "kokeshi" wooden doll with an octopus-shaped head, made by 44-year-old local kimono shop employee Takatoshi Hayashi. Hayashi makes unique-looking kokeshi dolls to help invigorate commerce in the northeastern Japan city hit by the March 2011 tsunami and earthquake disaster. (Kyodo)
