Japan names new era "Reiwa"
Photo taken April 1, 2019, shows Sakamoto Hachimangu shrine in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, the setting of an ancient poem from which Japan's new era name "Reiwa" was derived. The new era, whose name was adopted from "Manyoshu" eighth-century collection of Japanese poetry, will begin May 1 when Crown Prince Naruhito ascends the throne to succeed his father Emperor Akihito.
