              On April 21, Moss Food Service disclosed to the press an experiment to introduce a "slow cash register" using Orihime (photo), an alter ego robot from ORIY Laboratory (Minato-ku, Tokyo), at the Moss Burger Osaki store (Shinagawa-ku) from April 27. In the experiment, two physically challenged people living in the Kansai region will operate and handle the robot. While conversing with customers, the operators move Orihime with their personal computers or smart phones and also input orders. The experiment will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays until the end of August. Based on the results of this experiment, Moss Food Service plans to conduct other experiments within fiscal 2020, including drive-through order handling and meal delivery operations using self-propelled robots.                 With the participation of local companies, the project aims to be put to practical use as a mechanism for dealing with the logistics and shopping needs of the aging population in remote island areas. A single-rotor drone provided by ciRobotics (Oita City) was used in the experiment. S.T.K. Technology (same) installed a luggage storage box equipped with a drone port on a solid island. Oita Prefecture has been conducting drone verification experiments in mountainous areas and other areas, but this is the first time the maritime route has been used. There are no shops or clinics on Mukujima, and the island is served by a regular service that makes one or two round trips a day, six days a week, but the annual cost of the service exceeds 10 million yen.                     TOKYO, Japan - Hamburger chain operator Mos Food Services Inc., in a reversal of the widespread low-price strategy in the fast-food industry, said July 23 it will launch high-quality, pricey hamburgers with a Japanese taste from next month. A new hamburger named ''Takumi'' (R) for 580 yen and another called ''Takumi Cheese'' (L) for 640 yen will be sold at 122 of its outlets across Japan on Aug. 13, with just a total of 10 to be served daily at each shop.
