Tsunami-hit school in northeastern Japan

Photo taken Nov. 2, 2019, shows Kadonowaki Elementary School in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, which was damaged by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Demolition work started at the school on Dec. 2, though the central part of the building will be retained as a memorial to those that lost their lives in the disaster that engulfed wide coastal areas of northeastern Japan.
