Repatriation program for ethnic Koreans in Japan
File photo taken in December 1959 shows a ship carrying the first batch of "returners" leaving Niigata port, northwest of Tokyo, for North Korea. The repatriation program for ethnic Koreans and their wives from Japan to North Korea was held from 1959 through 1984, with a total of about 93,000 people taking part. (Kyodo)
